Fundamentals of Human Computer Interaction
What is Human Computer Interaction(HCI)?
- Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) is a multiple-dimension area that can be classified as human-centered design and evaluation, as well as a process of people-oriented implementation of the interactive computing systems that are designed for human-use. it provides a special press for what is observed and it aims to design user interfaces that are natural, fast and pleasant for users. HCI comprises of a range of disciplines including computer science, psychology, design, sociology, and ergonomics in providing the alternative solutions to hard problems.
-
Briefly, it can be said that HCI has to do with dealing with people and technology through various machines and as well with human minds. The human behavior study, which is a branch of study in HCI applies cognitive psychology and usability theories to come up with interfaces that not only meets the users’ needs, but also preferences and abilities. HCI which is an important aspect of usability of different kinds of software applications, websites, mobile apps, and devices with the view to enhance the quality of the experience and efficacy of the user.
HCI consist three parts:
- Human: could be an individual user or group of users.
-
Computer: could be any technology ranging from the general desktop computer to a large scale of computer system.
Interaction: Any direct or indirect communication between a human and computer.
The Goals of HCI
Enhanced User Experience: One of the main objectives of Human-Computer Interaction is to design technology which is user-focused, self-explanatory and fun in using. Having in mind users' needs, preferences, and behaviours, interface designers can design systems that meet users' expectations resulting in an increased user experience. This therefore, results to more happiness, productivity and engagement with technological trends.
Innovative Design Solutions: HCI which makes innovation possible through stimulating creativity and trial and error of interface designs. Through getting the grasp of things that people want, their motivations and issues, designers discover innovative ways to solve real life problems and to improve human-computer interaction. The HCI research outcomes result in the invention of new interaction techniques, user interface paradigms, and design principles that dictate the course of technology development.
Accessibility and Inclusivity: HCI underlines the accessibility, making it possible for users with diverse abilities to be involved in using the technology. Through user interface design that accommodates individuals with disabilities, which might be visual impairments, motor disabilities, or cognitive impairments, HCI fosters inclusivity and equal access to digital resources. Accessible technology does not only bring quiet many benefits for people with disabilities but also improves accessibility for all user thus we have more inclusive society.
Increased Efficiency and Productivity: Successful HCI designs make interactions between the users and computers more simplified, which leads to reducing mental load and shortening the time of task completion. Interfaces that are straightforward, which provide specific feedback, and navigational systems that are streamlined help to improve efficiency and increase productivity. Through reduced user frustration and errors , HCI allows people to complete tasks with higher accuracy whether they are browsing the Internet, operating with software applications, or interfacing with digital devices.
I suggest to you to include a example pictures of good design and bad design.
